Vintage unglazed Tamegrout ceramic vase
Produced in the tiny sand-beaten village of Tamegrout which lies on the edge of the Sahara, these ceramic forms are still fired in traditional mud-walled ovens, fueled by fallen palm leaves gathered from the surrounding oases.
The vase has a rounded, somewhat bulbous body that tapers to a narrower, cylindrical neck with a slightly flared rim. It also features small, applied protrusions around the body and base.
The unglazed earthenware surface has a rough texture and an earthy light beige colour with darker speckles and variations, characteristic of the use of natural clay and wood-firing process. It has developed some cracks and imperfections overtime.
