Hand painted Amazigh cedar wood chest

This Amazigh wooden chest is a beautiful example of Moroccan craftsmanship. The intricate geometric patterns using repeating motifs and star-like shapes are a hallmark of islamic art and very common in Moroccan design. The vibrant reds, blues, yellows, and browns were achieved through natural dyes.

Chests like these were the ancestors of wardrobes in traditional Amazigh homes and were used to store clothing, linens, jewellery, or important documents. Cedar wood's, ability to repel insects made it the perfect wood for storage pieces.
