Small Rif mountains ceremonial vase III
Small ceremonial vase with single hooped handle from the small town of Taghzout in northern Morocco.
This vessel stands as a particularly rare example of Rif pottery, distinguished by its exceptionally delicate and refined form. Such elegant profiles are fairly uncommon among the ceramic traditions of the Rif region, where coarser more utilitarian forms generally predominate.
This piece was part of a ceremonial bridal set from the 1930s, and was likely presented to the bride as a gift and used on the day of the marriage for ceremonial purposes.
The finely executed hand-painted motifs sit in sublime contrast to the subtle, yet elegant lustre of the aged slip glaze.
Part of our Heirloom collection.
