Beni Ouriaghel drinking pot
The Beni Ouriaghel's pottery making tradition is ancient and famous for its refined and rather sophisticated decorations full of symbolism. This Rifian tribe are true people of the mediterranean coast and their symbolism is often evocative of ships and sailing people.
The intricate decorations are applied with a tuft of goat hair, dipped in "fadis" the black juice of the local mastic tree.
This drinking pot, is designed with two handles and a characteristic oval opening in a birds mouth shape to facilitate drinking. Early to mid-20th century.
